Dr. Subrata Mukhopadhyay is a senior Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in glaucoma. Practising in West Bengal, he has 22 years of experience as an Eye Surgeon. Dr. Mukhopadhyay completed his MBBS in 1990 from Medical College, Calcutta, bagging a Gold Medal in the subject of Ophthalmology, which he then chose to specialise in. To this end he obtained an MS in Ophthalmology in 1996 at the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO) of the Medical College. He later completed a Fellowship in Glaucoma at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, in 1999.
After completing his post-graduation, Dr. Mukhopadhyay worked initially as Fellow and then as Resident at the Eye Care and Research Centre, Kolkata, from November 1996 to March 1999. He then was posted as Chief Medical Officer for the next eight years (April 1999 to March 2007) at the Netaji Eye Hospital in Ramchandrapur (Muradi), Purulia. During this period, he took up other assignments as well, which included visiting consultancy at the Galsi Lions Eye Hospital from October 2002 to March 2006, and at Debipur Netralaya, Memari, from April 2006 to August 2009.
Having started practising professionally in 1993, Dr. Subrata Mukhopadhyay is well-versed in all aspects of Ophthalmology. He has performed over 45,000 successful cataract operations in his career so far, including microsurgery, SICS and phaco surgery. In addition, he has done around 2,000 oculoplastic and 3,000 glaucoma surgeries till date. In addition to his clinical and surgical work, Dr. Mukhopadhyay has been involved in mass awareness programmes through regional television channels, where he has participated in live talk shows. His extra-curricular interests include reading books and listening to music.
